ROUTINE PARAMETERS:
- The routine time limit is 2.5 minutes. Timing starts at the first obvious movement or sound and ends when the end of the routine is obvious to the officials.
- All routines are "All Music" format. Cheers are not required nor will they be scored as an independent element. Note: Although cheer(s) are not required or expected in the All Music format teams may chose to insert words, chants or cheers over/with the music. Still there will be no cheer evaluation section on the score sheet. Such inclusions will only be addressed in the Overall Impression category.
- The performance area is 42' x 48' and will be covered by a carpeted gymnastics mat. Participants are permitted to step off the mat without penalty.
- All music must be provided in CD (compact disk) format. The coach or a designated team representative will push the play and stop button.
ELIGIBILITY:
- Each competitor must be enrolled at the school he/she is competing for, at the time of the competition. Club/All-Star team members must be enrolled in school at the time of the competition.
Divisions:
High School Large Varsity: Teams with 17 or more athletes and may include 1 male. All students must be in Grades 9-OAC inclusive. Note to non-Ontario teams: Ont does have a yr past grade 12.
High School Small Varsity: Teams with 16 or less athletes and may include 1 male. All students must be in Grades 9-OAC inclusive. Note to non-Ontario teams: Ont does have a yr past grade 12.
High School Co-ed: Unlimited team size, 5 or more males, all students must be in Grades 9-OAC inclusive.
High School Small Co-ed: Unlimited team size with 4 or less males, all students must be in Grades 9-OAC inclusive.
All-Star/Club: Unlimited team size and members can attend different schools. There is not a Large and Small division. All are in one. Team members must be enrolled in school (HS or under) at the time of the competition.
Co-ed All-Star/Club: Unlimited team size and members can attend different schools. There is not a Large and Small division. All are in one. Team members must be enrolled in school (HS or under) at the time of the competition.
Junior: unlimited team size, may include any number of males, all students must be in Grade 8 and under.
STUNT RESTRICTIONS/REGULATIONS:
- Free flight flipping mounts and dismounts are prohibited. (Re-winds, torch fronts etc)
- Inverted mounts and dismounts to stunts and pyramids are permitted provided the top is fully supported throughout the inverted phases of the load/dismount.
- Double twisting dismounts require 3 catchers. Twisting dismounts exceeding two rotations are prohibited.
- All Divisions may perform full twisting dismounts from stunts. 3 catchers are required (exception: Full Twisting dismounts from a chair are prohibited).
- All one-arm stunts require an additional spotter that assists in the dismount.
- Split catches and toe pitch flips are prohibited.
- Junior and Primary teams may perform extended stunts. Three bases must be used and a 4th is encouraged either as a base or dedicated spotter. Straddle lifts are not considered "extended".
BASKET TOSS RESTRICTIONS/REGULATIONS:
- Basket tosses must be performed with both bases feet on the ground and must be cradled by three catchers. (the original two bases and an additional head spotter)
- Tosses/pitches (not basket tosses) may go from one set of bases to another but at least one of the original throwers must also participate FULLY in the catch or landing. (ie retaining contact with the foot on a cradle is not sufficient). SEE FAQ page for further notes
- Flipping basket tosses (free flight) are not permitted.
- Twisting Basket Tosses (or throws of similar nature) are permitted but may not exceed 2 revolutions.
- Thigh Pop/tosses, "Bottle-Rockets" and "shot-gun" tosses are all grouped into the Basket Toss category.
PYRAMID RESTRICTIONS/REGULATIONS:
- Pyramids over 2 people high are prohibited.
- Free flight flipping pyramid mounts and dismounts are prohibited.
- Foot first pyramid dismounts require only one catcher. Cradle dismounts from pyramids require at least three catchers.
- Twisting dismounts from pyramids require three catchers (the third catcher must be designated to the head).
- All tops in pyramids must have their primary weight bearing support on a base on the floor. (ie a top can not have their primary "mid-base" support(s), not in contact with the floor). NOTE to Ontario teams: a thigh stand-2 high chair etc. is not permitted.
TUMBLING RESTRICTIONS/REGULATIONS:
- Twisting tumbling elements exceeding 2 rotations and flipping tumbling elements exceeding 1 rotation are prohibited.
GENERAL COMPETITION RULES & GUIDELINES:
- No jewelry is permitted during performances. (Including belly button rings, all "oral" jewelry. Taping over piercings is not permitted).
- Each team must bring at least two copies of their music to the competition, one master and at least one back-up. Music must be in CD (compact disk) format. Do NOT use re-writable CDs. Please test all CDs in an standard audio system before using them at the event.
- Mascots in routines are not permitted to participate in any stunts, pyramids or as spotters or catchers.
- Officials have the right to stop a routine if an athlete is injured during the routine and the injury puts the participant and others at risk if not stopped. In this event the routine is scored accordingly to that point and is not re-run.
- Cheating of any kind is not tolerated. If you are caught your team will be disqualified from the competition.
- The use of mini-tramps, springboards or any other height enhancing apparatus is prohibited.
- Casts of any type are not permitted. Supportive braces should be covered.
NEW: - FLAGS depicting the school name, logo, and mascot etc are allowed. Generic coloured flags, fabric ribbon/banners and wavers etc. are NOT permitted. Provincial and National flags are NOT permitted within the routine.
- All judges decisions are final.
