We run 3 collegiate cheer teams out of the Power Cheer Gym.

To simplify information re tryout days, we put all three team's basic information here.

 

The Western Fall 'Walk-On' Tryout (for both teams) is always the first Sunday after Labour Day. 11:00-1:30pm at the Stadium. The Falcon Tryouts are the same day, 5:00-7:00pm at the Power Cheer Gym. See Posters. The 'Spring' Tryouts are always on the Friday at the end of the Ontario High School March Break week. If in doubt - please contact Coach T

1. The Western Mustangs Coed Cheer Team is funded through the Athletic Department and is the official cheerleading team for the University of Western Ontario. Female Athletes interested in the coed team will be looked at for advanced tumbling skills, partner stunt ability (or learn-ability) as well as game readiness and probability for success in the areas this team typically is exposed to (public relations, skills clinics, game involvement etc).

Male Athletes interested in the coed team will be looked at for strength, coordination, quick learning and tumbling (if applicable) and probability for success in the areas this team typically is exposed to (public relations, skills clinics, game involvement etc). The single most frequently asked question by guys interested in trying out: 'do I have to be able to flip?' - Answer: no, but we will look at teaching you once on the team.

The Coed Tryout will take roughly 2 hrs to complete. (note BOTH teams will be conducting tryouts in the same gym or field at the same time - thus, cross over of athletes and viewing by all coaches will be optimized)

LOCATION: Power Cheer Gym 580 Quebec St. - if you need transportation from campus to the gym, please PLAN AHEAD: determine the LTC bus route(s), take a cab, get a ride, use Google, be resourceful. If YOU have a car and can help drive people to the gym - please offer your services. In SEPTEMBER - we have the 'Walk-On' tryouts at Alumni Field next to TD Stadium (11:00pm on the first Sunday after Labour Day. In 2018 - that will be Sept 9)

2. The Western All-Girl Competitive Cheer Team (also refered to as 'X') exists purely to compete in the Collegiate all-girl level 6 division. They do not cheer games and are not connected to the Mustang Athletic Department. They opperate as a stand alone club team under the Power Cheer Gym roof. Members must be current UWO students carrying a class load of a minimum of 3 classes in order to be eligible for the team. Facebook Tryout PageTryout Poster 3.

Athlete Selection for bases, tops/flyers, tumbling specialists etc will focus on the applicable skill sets for the respective positions.

3. The Fanshawe Black Falcons Competitive Coed Cheerleading Team exists purely to compete in the Community College OR University Small Coed level 6 division. They do not cheer games and are not connected to the Fanshawe College Athletic Department or Student Union in any way. They opperate as a stand alone club team under the auspicies of Power Cheer Gym. Members must be current Fanshawe College students (any campus) carrying a class load of a minimum of 3 classes in order to be eligible for the team. Team Site. Practice Days: Sunday 7:30-9:30pm and Wednesday 9:00-11:00pm.

Female Athletes will be looked at for partner stunt ability (or learn-ability) as either a base or top and tumbling skills as well as over-all fitness and adaptability to the present positional needs of the squad. The team is a 'hybrid' coed with some all-girl base units.

Male Athletes will be looked at for strength, coordination, quick learning and tumbling (if applicable). The frequently asked question by guys interested in trying out is: 'do I have to be able to flip?' - Answer: no, but we will look at teaching you once on the team.

The Tryout will take roughly 1.5 hrs to complete.
